This is my first album review published in The Connector. I wrote my article on the Yellowcard album Lift A Sail.

My intended audience for this article wasn't clear to me considering I had never written an article for a publication. I knew I wanted my audience to be students and faculty who were interested in the pop-punk or rock music scene. I did not write my article based on a clear audience but rather on what the album itself had to offer should someone choose to listen to it.

I put this article in my portfolio to showcase the writing skills I developed from writing for The Connector. I spent over a month fine tuning and re-editing this article before it was published. I did not realize how much work it would actually take to be a writer for The Connector. I had not considered the fact that editors could keep sending my work back to me until they thought it was ready for publication. This article had been rejected three times before it was published.

The hardest part about writing this article was trying to write an unbiased review. Album reviews cannot have direct opinion, which I learned because of my re-drafting process. A good example of me stating my take on the album without being opinionated was when I said, "Overall the tracks flow very nicely together, going from powerful songs, to more reserved songs instrumentally."

Another hard part of writing this album review was working on a deadline. Album reviews are much more appealing when they come out right after an album was released. I knew I had to edit this article in a timely fashion and on a deadline to better appeal to my audience. This was my first real experience working on a deadline.

Since this article was also published online, I was able to share it on my Facebook. The purpose of my review was to help showcase my writing skills, as well as what I would consider a great album. As a freshmen, getting an article published in the school  newspaper was exciting. I knew I had to be a decent writer, otherwise my review would not have been published. I wanted to show students new music that they may not have heard before. This review was a great learning experience for me since I was not familiar with how to write a music review. This music review has become the stepping stone for all my future reviews.
